Use preview mode for developer and production handoff

Preview mode gives developers and production teams a clean, structured view of approved content without requiring a Slickplan account. Use it to copy page or block content, download files and move content into production when you are not using the Slickplan API or WordPress plugin.

Before you begin

Make sure the content is ready to share and that you can access the project or page sharing controls. People opening the preview link do not need a Slickplan account.

You can protect a shared preview with a password when the project requires additional access control.

Share the complete project

  1. From Sitemap, Diagrams, Content, or Designs, select the Share icon in the top navigation bar.
  2. In the share window, select Copy link to copy the preview URL or Open in new window to open it immediately.
  3. The shared project opens in preview mode on the Sitemap tab.

Share a specific Content Planner page

  1. In Content Planner, open the page you want to share.
  2. Select the Share icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Turn on Allow comments on this page’s preview when you want recipients to comment on this page. This setting allows page comments even when project-wide commenting is disabled.
  4. Select Copy link to copy the page preview URL or Open in new window to open it immediately.

The link opens preview mode on the selected page.

Preview mode includes tabs for Sitemap, Diagrams, Content and Designs.

  1. Select Content to review and extract page content.
  2. Use the search field in the left sidebar to find a page.
  3. Select a page from the hierarchical page list. Page numbers reflect its position in the sitemap structure.
  4. Use the status toggle to highlight pages by their assigned workflow status when you need to identify content that is in progress, approved or in another project state.

Copy or download an entire page

Open the More menu in the upper-right corner of the content area, then choose an action:

  • Copy HTML copies the complete page with its HTML tags, classes and IDs.
  • Copy plain text copies the page text without formatting.
  • Copy link copies a direct link to the current page in preview mode.
  • Download files downloads the images, videos and documents attached to the page.

Copy or download an individual content block

Hover over a content block to display its contextual controls. Depending on the block, you can see its label, assigned HTML tag, ID or class name, comment control, and Copy as menu.

Choose another handoff method

Preview mode works well for manual, no-login handoff. Use another method when your team needs exported files or an automated transfer:

  • DOCX export creates a structured text document without retaining HTML.
  • Slickplan XML includes content and assigned tags and is used by the WordPress plugin.
  • Export as a website generates static HTML files for project pages and assets.
  • The Slickplan API transfers content programmatically to another system.
  • The WordPress plugin transfers approved content into WordPress.

Note: CSV, text and sitemap XML exports contain sitemap structure only. They do not include page content.
