AI Assistant: Quick guide

Slickplan’s ✨AI Assistant in the Sitemap Builder makes updating and enhancing your sitemap simple and efficient. It provides three powerful tools to streamline your workflow.

With the AI Assistant, you can optimize your sitemap structure, add new branches or sections, and create an entirely new sitemap.

This guide will explain each tool to help you use them effectively.

Accessing the AI Assistant

To access the AI Assistant, find the white button that says “Need help with your sitemap?” at the bottom of the Sitemap Builder interface.

Click this button to open a dialog with three options: Optimize structure, Add new branch or section, or Generate new sitemap.

Optimize structure

The “Optimize Structure” tool helps you refine your sitemap’s organization while keeping your existing content, diagrams, and page properties intact.

Steps to optimize your sitemap:

  1. Click Optimize Structure. The AI Assistant will confirm: “Got it. I won’t modify any existing content, diagrams, or page properties, so your work will remain safe.”

  2. The assistant will ask: “How would you like to optimize your sitemap?” You will see three options:
    • Expand: Suggest new pages or sections for your sitemap.
    • Reorganize: Adjust the hierarchy to improve flow.
    • Improve label names: Update page titles for clarity and consistency.

  3. After selecting an option, click the blue send icon.

  4. If you choose Expand or Reorganize, the AI will generate suggestions automatically.
  5. If you choose Improve label names, you will be prompted to select from:
    • Change tone: Choose a tone of voice for the labels.
    • Change length: Shorten or lengthen the label names.
    • Fix grammar: Correct any grammatical issues.
    • Translate: Convert label names into another language.

  6. After making your selection, click the blue send icon again to apply your request.

  7. The AI will generate changes and show a temporary view of the updated sitemap for review.

Review options:

  • If you’re satisfied with the changes, click Confirm Changes to apply them.
  • If you want to adjust, choose one of the following:
    • Try again: Restart the process.
    • Undo changes: Revert to the previous state.

By following these steps, you can efficiently optimize your sitemap while maintaining control over AI-generated suggestions.

Add new branch or section

The AI Assistant’s “Add new branch or section” feature helps you expand your sitemap with AI-generated suggestions. This tool automatically adds categories or organizes content under new sections.

A branch creates a set of pages under a parent page, ideal for grouping related items like products or services. A section organizes larger websites by dividing content into clear, navigable groups.

Steps to add a new branch or section:

  1. Click the Add new branch or section button.

  2. The AI Assistant will ask, “Which one?” Choose either Add a branch or Add a section.

  3. Next, choose a parent page:
    • Click Find to see a list of pages from your sitemap in hierarchical order.

    • Select the parent page and click the blue send icon.

  1. The AI Assistant will ask you to briefly describe the new pages:
    • Provide a short prompt about the content you need. AI can help with research or brainstorming. For example:
      • A list of all Stone Temple Pilots albums by release date
      • A breakdown of common services offered by a local attorney’s office (e.g., family law, estate planning, personal injury)

  2. The AI Assistant will then ask you to select a range for the number of pages:
    • Choose from: 1-10, 10-20, 20+, or Decide for me.

Review options:

  • If you’re satisfied with the changes, click Confirm Changes to apply them.
  • If you want to adjust, choose one of the following:
    • Try again: Restart the process.
    • Undo changes: Revert to the previous state.

Generate a new sitemap

The AI Assistant’s “generate a new sitemap” tool helps you create a new sitemap for your project. This is perfect for starting from scratch or reorganizing a site.

Steps to generate a new sitemap:

  1. Select Generate a new sitemap from the AI Assistant options.

  2. The AI Assistant will ask, “Would you like to overwrite the current sitemap or create a new version?
    • Choose Overwrite sitemap to replace your existing sitemap, or Create new version to keep the original and generate an alternate version.

  3. If you select Overwrite, the AI will give you a warning. Confirm to proceed or go back.

  4. Next, select the page range:
    • Options include 1-10, 10-20, 20+, or Decide for me.

  5. Choose the language for your sitemap. The default is English (US), then click the blue send icon.

  6. You’ll be asked to describe the site in one or two sentences.
    • Example: “A local Miami gym chain specializing in CrossFit.

  7. Click the blue send icon to have the AI Assistant generate the sitemap.

Review options:

  • If you’re satisfied with the changes, click Confirm Changes to apply them.
  • If you want to adjust, choose one of the following:
    • Try again: Restart the process.
    • Undo changes: Revert to the previous state.
